Mazda is a company which is always pushing forward and developing technologies that can help to make our motoring lives easier and more efficient. Its Skyactiv technology has shown that petrol engines can be made even more efficient yet powerful and you’ll find this innovative setup in many of the Mazda vehicles that we have here at David Hayton.
But what does the future have in store for Skyactiv technology and Mazda? Let’s take a closer look.
Engine Technology
Mazda’s Skyactiv technology has showcased a way of getting the maximum amount of efficiency from a petrol engine while still delivering the performance that buyers expect from this brand. The latest e-Skyactiv-X engines start with a spark like a petrol engine but use compression during the rest of the process akin to a diesel. What’s the benefit? Well, in doing so, it brings the fuel efficiency that you’d usually associate with a diesel, but with the responsiveness of a petrol engine. You could argue that it is a ‘Goldilocks’ setup which takes the best bits of all powertrains.
It looks likely that Mazda will continue with its Skyactiv technology for the foreseeable future, though with greater hybridisation and the further adoption of electric power as it moves to reduce its overall global impact in terms of CO2.
Upcoming Models
There’s plenty to look forward to in Mazda’s future. It has already introduced its CX-60 and CX-80 SUVs, with both bringing plenty of high-end touches alongside fuel-efficient powertrains.
However, things are set to take a more electric turn, too. From next year, Mazda will introduce ‘a number’ of new products based on a new dedicated electric platform. The brand says that once these models are introduced, it will be ‘on track’ to have an electrified range by the end of the decade. However, expect to see more hybrids introduced as well, helped no end through Mazda’s long-term partnership with Toyota - a brand which has significant expertise in building hybrids.
Mazda Commitments
Mazda has made several strong commitments that will help shape its future. For starters, by 2030 it expects a quarter of its vehicles globally to be electric-only, with the remainder using hybridisation in some form to help drive down emissions. Then, by 2050, the brand aims to be carbon neutral in all areas of its business, from production right the way through to transport.
However, it is also exploring other avenues beyond just electrification. Sustainable fuels, for instance, are being investigated by Mazda as a way of making its existing petrol cars cleaner to run and as a way of smoothing the transition from traditional combustion-engined vehicles to battery-powered ones. It is this level of automotive innovation which allows Mazda to forge a path ahead into the future.
But it’s that Skyactiv technology which also plays a big role in Mazda’s cleaner future. The brand plans on finessing the system even further, with the technology helping to reduce emissions and boost efficiency. This applies both to Mazda’s regular petrol-powered cars as well as hybrid models which can benefit from Skyactiv technology alongside the integration of electrification.
Mazda Vehicles at David Hayton
You’ll find many of Mazda’s latest vehicles here at David Hayton, with Skyactiv technology being integrated into a lot of them. We’ve got the sharp CX-30, which as well as standard features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, parking sensors and heated seats, brings the very latest e-Skyactiv-X technology which delivers low CO2 emissions of 138g/km.
If you’re looking to take a step into the world of electric then we’ve got an option from Mazda, too, with the MX-30. It uses some sustainable materials throughout its construction - with one of the most noticeable being the cork in the centre of the cabin - but you also get an electric powertrain capable of delivering up to 124 miles of range, or around 164 miles if you’re travelling predominantly in the city.
We’ve also got the CX-5, which is one of Mazda’s most popular SUVs. Comfortable yet sporty to drive, the CX-5 is an ideal family car with its large boot and spacious cabin. Plus, with e-Skyactiv G mild-hybrid technology it’s an efficient option, too.
