New Mazda CX-80 in 2025: What Do We Know?

Tue 4th Feb 2025

Mazda’s CX-80 is one of the latest vehicles to join this brand’s stable. It has just touched down in the UK, too, and you can now check it out here at our David Hayton Mazda showroom.

But what does this exciting large SUV have in store, and what are the key details to know about it? In this article, we’re going to be exploring all of the features that the new CX-80 has to offer.

Design

The new CX-80 has arrived as Mazda’s flagship vehicle and it gets loads of features befitting its status at the top of the brand’s line-up. You may see some similarities with the smaller CX-60, though it measures in with a 260mm boost in wheelbase length to help bring extra interior space.

As with other Mazda vehicles, the CX-80 features several chrome elements - particularly around the grille - while nine exterior colours will help to make personalising this car even easier.

Interior

One of the key plus points of the new CX-60 is its ability to carry up to seven people. With three roomy, versatile rows it’s ideal for larger families or for drivers who frequently carry larger groups along for the ride. In a seven-seater configuration, you get a middle row with three chairs, while behind it sits a third row with space for two.

However, other grades offer alternative configurations. For instance, Takumi Plus specification cars can have an option middle console in the second row which provides additional storage and a more first-class experience. Homura and Homura Plus specifications, meanwhile, can have a handy ‘step-through’ middle row which provides a walk space between the middle seats to provide easier access to that third and final row.

Boot space

The CX-80 delivers in terms of practicality, too. When it comes to boot space, Mazda’s new SUV offers a handy 258 litres even when all rows are in place, meaning that if you’re travelling with seven on board you’ll still have room for their things.

Lower those rearmost seats and the boot space expands to 687 litres or, if you need the most practicality, fold down the middle chairs too and you’ll see that luggage volume swell to 1,971 litres when loaded to the ceiling.

Technology

There’s more than enough technology aboard the CX-80 to keep even the most avid of button-pressers happy. All versions get three-zone climate control equipped as standard, allowing you to get all areas of the cabin to just the right temperature. There is also a 12.3-inch infotainment system included on all grades and it’s equipped with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to make mirroring your smartphone on the car’s display a breeze.

You’ll also find Amazon’s Alexa voice recognition software included on all models. With it, you can programme in destinations or even ask questions that may spring to mind en route.

Powertrains

Mazda has always committed to making powerful yet efficient engine setups and that’s no different in the CX-80. Firstly, there’s a plug-in hybrid variant which combines a 2.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and battery for up to 38 miles of electric-only running. It’s a great option for drivers looking to reduce their fuel usage over smaller trips.

Then, there’s a smooth 3.3-litre six-cylinder diesel which incorporates Mazda’s M Hybrid system for better efficiency. Both engines are hooked up to an eight-speed automatic transmission, too.

Safety

Safety is paramount in the SUV segment and it’s something that has been prioritised in the CX-80. It’s equipped with a range of enhanced safety features, including emergency lane keep assist and vehicle exit warning, which can alert passengers who are getting out of the car to an oncoming vehicle or cyclist.

The CX-80 also scored impressively well in recent Euro NCAP safety tests, returning the maximum five stars available.

The new CX-80 is one of the most exciting and versatile Mazda vehicles launched in recent times. If you’d like to test drive this seven-seater flagship then get in touch and speak to one of the David Hayton team today.
